Known around the office for his conquests in Defense of the Ancients (DOTA 2) and affinity for chicken wings, Katana’s Accounting Manager Ryan Sherman brings years of finance experience working with non-profit foundations and accounting firms.
At Katana, even though data defines our work, our people define our culture. In this installment of our monthly Staff Spotlight, get to know Ryan!
What’s your position and role at Katana?
I am the Accounting Manager here at Katana.
What’re two interesting facts about you?
I’ve traveled to five out of the seven continents, and I achieved the rank of Grand Marshal in Vanilla World of Warcraft (laughs).
One thing you couldn’t live without?
That would be my loving mother, but my running shoes are a close second.
How do you define success?
Success for me means being able to work on things that align with my life’s purpose and being paid to do it. Furthermore, I won’t consider myself successful unless I can help at least a few people achieve their own success.
What are your most overused words/phrases?
If it doesn’t make dollars, it doesn’t make sense.
What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?
This would probably have to be the iPod and iPhone. Steve Jobs and Apple have definitely changed our world.
If you had to go up against Katana’s CEO Melissa Lopez in the World Karaoke Championship, what song would you sing?
This would be a tough call, but I’d probably hit her with a bit of Celine Dion – My Heart Will Go On.
If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
This question is almost as tough of defining success, so I’m just going to go with Martin Luther King, Jr. because he is a man who stood up for what he believed in despite great resistance.
