Lauren Forbes is KATANA’s staff accountant, ensuring that our finances run smoothly and our financial relationships are transparent. She works alongside our CFO to identify areas of improvement, investment, and growth, and has a keen eye for detail—which is why she was our Q2 World-Class champion! A bay area native, she came down to San Diego to be an Aztec for Life and get her B.S. in Marketing at SDSU. Since then, she has received her AA in Accounting and is currently working towards becoming a CPA. Get to know Lauren!
- What’s your position and role at Katana?
I am the Staff Accountant here at Katana.
- Pick your next vacation, where would you go?
Imagining this was an all expenses paid for vacation, I would take my fiance on a mini European tour. We would start out in Italy to visit Venice, Florence, and Rome. From there we would hop on over to France to visit Champagne and Paris. We would finish in Spain to see Barcelona and Madrid. I think it would be fun!
- One thing you couldn’t live without?
I really had to think about this one because there are so many things that make life enjoyable (glitter, puppies, Disney, Real Housewives), but I have to go with a sense of humor. Having a sense of humor makes life easier, despite the obstacles that constantly come up in life. Plus who doesn’t like to laugh?
- How do you define success?
I define success as figuring out what makes you happy and then spending your life doing that. It is simple, but not easy!
- What’s the last book you read?
I just finished rereading a book by my favorite author Plum Sykes called “Party Girls Die in Pearls”, but I am currently reading “Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion” by Gary Vaynerchuk. So far, it is very enlightening, and I highly recommend it.
- What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?
Everyone says internet and cell phones, so for the sake of being somewhat original, I would have to say IoT applications. I find it amazing that we live in a world with smartwatches, smart TVs, smart appliances, smart cars, smart homes, and smartphones. As a society, we have developed a dependence on convenience and connectivity, and I genuinely believe that we haven’t even scratched the surface with the integration of these IoT applications in our everyday lives.
- If you had to go up against KATANA President and former Rockstar, JJ Bannasch, in the World Lip Sync Battle Championship, what song would you sing?
Without a doubt, I would perform a showstopper by the legendary Miss Britney Spears. Probably Toxic or Circus… total classics!
