In this Katana company update, we speak on our considerable recognition and growth in the third quarter of 2016. As a team, we strive to collectively execute strategic digital media campaigns, employing data as a foundation for smarter media buying – and we’re proud of our dynamic team of innovators for revolutionizing the way people interact online.

In summary of the past two months, we’ve welcomed a new hire, recognition from San Diego Magazine and a national publication and initiated two educational partnerships.

OUR COMMUNITY

Katana is proud to announce our educational partnerships with the South Bay Union School District and the California History-Social Science Project. We pride ourselves in cultivating thought leadership and innovation within our office, so we thought we’d share our enthusiasm with the San Diego community! 

South Bay Union School District, Central Elementary

Spearheaded by our CEO Melissa Lopez, Katana has initiated an educational partnership with a local South Bay Union School District elementary school to promote creativity and innovation in upper grade students. Central Elementary recently introduced “Genius Hour,” a program that aligns with Katana’s mission statement to “Be Super Smart.” Twice a week, students are encouraged to independently embrace passion projects using technologies like Google Chromebooks.

Some students’ learning capacities are stunted by traditional learning environments, so Genius Hour introduces an autonomous classroom environment that intrinsically motivates students to engage with projects they enjoy. We are so humbled to have the opportunity to support young innovators in their pursuit of fledging interests.

California History-Social Science Project

Katana hosted a two-day conference for the California History-Social Science Project (CHSSP) at our San Diego headquarters in early September. The CHSSP is a discipline-specific program under the California Subject Matter Projects (CSMP) commissioned by the University of California, Office of the President. The “statewide network of scholars and k-12 teachers are dedicated to providing the highest quality history instruction,” student learning and literacy. 

Each aspect of education is a foundational component essential for student growth and progression, and Katana is honored to offer our innovative lens for future academic curriculum.

San Diego Magazine, 2016 Woman of the Year Awards

Katana’s Chief Executive Officer, Melissa Lopez, was named a finalist for the upcoming San Diego Magazine 2016 Woman of the Year. San Diego Magazine’s Woman of the Year Award is presented to one woman each year who has demonstrated positive leadership, personal integrity and achievement in her community.

“As a woman who has been in the advertising industry since graduating from the University of San Diego nearly 20 years ago, it is humbling to be considered for this recognition,” said Lopez. “I continue to strive to maintain the balance of giving 100 percent to both my personal and professional life as many women do. I am blessed to be surrounded by people who make this possible and realize that this recognition is a culmination of the work of many who make my success possible.”

Lopez has been recognized twice for her contributions as the former President and Chairman of the Board for SDX and for her affiliation with the local Entrepreneurs’ Organization chapter. The 125-strong individuals of San Diego’s local Entrepreneurs’ Organization recently named Melissa as the 2016 CEO of the Year for her dedication and thought leadership within the advertising realm. For the past couple of years, Melissa has been a mentor in the EO’s Accelerator Program, fostering entrepreneurship and sustainable growth.

US Search 16 Shortlist

US Search Awards 2016

Katana couldn’t be more excited to announce that we have be shortlisted in the “Best Integrated Campaign” category for the 2016 US Search Awards! Earlier in 2016, Katana executed a comprehensive integrated media campaign and website redesign for a client in the financial industry. The strategies implemented by our team were not only successful at achieving the objectives set forth, but helped create overall business evaluation for our client.
